James Rushbrooke

James is our resident Drama and Theatre Studies teacher. He teaches throughout the South West region and we are pleased to welcome him to our already strong staff. After completing his A-levels James studied for a joint honours BSc in Psychology and Drama and uses both elements of his degree in his character based teaching style. He is a qualified actor-combatant with the British Academy of Stage and Screen Combat in Unarmed Combat / Rapier and Dagger and a member of the Society of American Fight Directors.

James is an experienced performer, treading the boards as an actor since the early 1990's and is a key member of the Sidetrack Theatre Group performing with them since 2000. More recently James has turned his hand to writing and a number of his comedy sketches have been performed in London at the ‘NewsRevue'.

James centres his entire working life on working with children and young people, who he believes are more interesting, genuine and upfront than adults. When he is not teaching James is an advocate for looked after children in the care system, he attends meetings, challenges social work decisions on behalf of young people and campaigns vehemently for children's rights.

James' classes are hard work, challenging and pitched at a very mature level. He works all his pupils hard, believing that children have great capacity for psychological realism but this is largely overlooked in England. He grudgingly admits that our young performers are not a patch on young Americans and seeks to remedy this awful situation.
