School Show
Danceworks Studio show burst onto the stage at the Bacon Theatre on the 21st and 22nd June for a celebration of dance and drama entitled "A Night at the Theatre", with dazzling costumes and slick, inspiring choreography.
300 students presented the show to packed audiences on both nights of its run. A show in three parts, Act 1 explored the world of The Nutcracker in both classical and contemporary ballet. The opening number "Snowflakes" set the feel for the evening with a dynamic contemporary piece set to music by Joshua Bell. Classical ballet followed with music by Tchaikovsky as dancers lead the audience through the well loved traditions of toy soldiers, sugar mice, travels through the Enchanted Kingdom and the Kingdom of Sweets, where the audience was enthralled by dancers depicting mints, liquorices and marshmallows, in a delicious array of sparkling costumes.
Act 2 was an exciting journey through musical theatre with inspiration from the film "Happy Feet", featuring funky tap penguins; the musical "Annie" with acrobatic orphans and the stage show "Chicago" with sassy, stylish jazz and tap numbers. Fast, frenetic street and tap style was the focus for Act 3, culminating in a vibrant dance stand-off in a tribute to Michael Jackson's "Beat It".
The cast, aged three to adult gave a fantastic presentation on stage to a standing ovation in the finale.
Over the two days of the show we raised £640 pounds for the Winston's Wish charity, mainly through show program sales but also by collection tins and Winston's Wish merchandise. So a very well done and thank you to all that were involved!
