Exams & Performance

Exams

At Danceworks we teach a recognised vocational exam curriculum in ballet, modern and tap with the British Ballet Organisation (BBO) syllabus. The exam syllabus enables students to reach a documented level of learning whilst gaining a qualification recognised by the Government office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (OFQUAL). Drama exams are with the LAMDA syllabus. We are also an Acrobatic Arts Centre with a qualified teacher in Acrobatic Arts.

Whether training professional or recreationally we encourage students to enter examinations as a personal goal to gain a sense of progression and achievement with the chance to fulfil their potential and gain greater confidence in their abilities. For students looking to pursue a professional career in dance, examinations form a vital part of their training, and we advise such students to study and examine in ballet, tap, modern and drama.

Danceworks is a registered exam centre so exam sessions take place on site at Cheltenham at the end of every autumn, spring and summer term. Candidates are entered at the discretion of the principal with additional exam coaching lessons taking place in the run up to the exam. Students can enter exams from five years onwards. However, we recognise that not all students may wish to enter an examination, so therefore they are not compulsory.

Performance

All students are encouraged to take part in Danceworks stage shows, at the Bacon Theatre, Cheltenham. We believe that performance is an integral part of our study programme, giving students the chance to build all important stage skills in the most effective way they can be learned – by treading the boards. Danceworks shows blend hard work, dedication, and team effort into an amazing experience for students, allowing them to bring their technical work in front of an appreciative audience, building confidence and self- esteem long after the show ends. Students have great fun learning how rehearsal and presentation builds with backstage practicalities to help form the magical world of theatre!

Danceworks is often asked to perform at various outdoor events such as Fiesta in the Park, the Brewery Christmas Lights Switch On, Bishops Cleeve Street Fair, school fetes and charity events, plus we also perform at various stage events, festivals and competitions throughout Gloucestershire.

Parents Open Week

Parents are welcome to watch classes at the end of the autumn and summer terms. We encourage parents to see their children in action in class and to see their child’s progress. Students also love the opportunity to perform in front of parents!
